Digantara is building the world’s first maps for space, Space-Mission Assurance Platform™ (Space-MAP™). Space-MAP™ represents a revolutionary end-to-end infrastructure for sustainable space operations, offering a comprehensive space situational awareness (SSA) solution that simplifies and strengthens satellite operations in the face of the rapidly expanding commercialization of space.
Space-MAP™ is powered by space surveillance & tracking data gathered by advanced ground-based and space-based telescopes.
Digantara is looking for a Opto-Mechanical Design Engineer to design mechanical and opto-mechanical systems for its ground and space-based optical systems. The engineer will be designing advanced mechanical and opto-mechanical systems for Space Surveillance Telescopes and validating the performance of the designs using mechanical simulations.
Why us?
- Competitive incentives, galvanising workspace, blazing team, frequent outings—pretty much everything that you have heard about a startup, plus more of the satellite/rocket stuff—perhaps handle a satellite or lean on a rocket.
- Hustle in a well-funded startup with a flat hierarchy that allows you to take charge of your responsibilities and create your own moonshot.
Ideal Skills
We are ideally looking for someone with extensive expertise in designing opto-mechanical systems for satellite payloads or ground telescopes for high resolution astronomy.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (B.E/B.Tech) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. M.Tech or Ph.D. degree preferred.
- 6+ years proven experience in designing reliable opto-mechanical components and performing complex FEA simulations for structural and thermal analysis in the field of space and defence sector.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Ansys, SolidWorks or Creo) for geometry preparation and mesh generation.
- Proficiency in simulation tools (ANSYS, Siemens, Solidworks or COMSOL)
- In-depth understanding of engineering principles, materials science, and mechanical behavior.
- Demonstrated expertise in applying FEA techniques to solve practical engineering problems and optimize product designs.
- Familiarity with defence industry standards and regulations governing mechanical systems and components.
Preferred Qualities
- Experience with a complete product life cycle of a space telescope will be a big plus
- Proficiency with space standards.
- Expertise in building deployable systems.
- Hands on experience in opto-mechanical assembly and alignment.
- Knowledge of optical design.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and analysis of mechanical systems and components using FEA software packages.
- Conduct structural, and thermal analyses to evaluate product performance and reliability.
- Develop and implement advanced FEA methodologies to optimize designs and solve engineering challenges.
- Collaborate with optical design engineers to provide input on product design improvements and modifications.
- Generate detailed engineering reports and documentation to communicate analysis results and recommendations.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on FEA techniques and best practices.
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in FEA technology to continuously improve analysis methodologies.
General Requirements
- Ability to work in a mission-focused, operational environment.
- Ability to think critically and make independent decisions.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Writing and delivering technical documents and briefings.
